Antonio Caruso Staten Island/Bayonne

Post by Superchick556 »

Hi I was wondering if someone could help me... I've been doing family research for a couple years now, but I'm still hung up on this one person, Antonio Caruso.

Antonio Caruso is buried in St. Mary's Assumption Cemetery in Staten Island in my family's plot. I've called the cemetery and they didn't have much information. I took a guess that he went through Miggliaccio (sp?) Funeral Home in Bayonne, NJ because all my family has gone through there. I called them and I was right, but they didn't have any info for me either. Here is what I know.

People buried in the plot related to me:
Salvatore Militello (gg grandfather) 1861-1924
Theresa Militello maiden name Arabia (gg grandmother) 1861-1957
Vitala aka Lena Farina maiden name Militello(daughter of Theresa and Sal) 1891-1951
Salvatore Farina 1887-1969 Vitala's husband

The cemetery told me that the owner/organizer of the funeral was Theresa Militello (Caruso) but I know her maiden name isn't Caruso, because I have her death certificate and other documentation. I have no idea who this person is and it's driving me crazy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!!

This sounds more like a second marriage name than a maiden name.

Is it possible Antonio Caruso is a second husband? Can you provide us with ANY dates relative to Antonio from the burial plot (date of birth/death)?

T.

Antonio Caruso was born August 12, 1867 and died December 22, 1924. Theresa Militello (Arabia) was born in 1881 and died in 1957. She had children which were all born in the 1890s - 1903, which makes her pretty young to have a second marriage, but I guess it happens.

It looks like Antonio Caruso and your gg grandfather Sal both died in the same year. Do you know what day Sal died and how he died? Possibly an accident where they died together? That could explain why it was written that Theresa was Antonio's wife. He also could be a friend who just came from Italy. Many people would come first and then earn money to get the rest of their family. If Antonio died before he got his family, perhaps your family took him in and gave him a spot at the family's grave? Pure speculation, but just throwing out a couple of ideas. :)

I also noticed how they both died the same year and was wondering if there was a connection, but Sal's obituary doesn't say anything about any accident. Sal's obituary reads: "Salvatore Militello, 62 years of age died yesterday at his home, 94 West Nineteenth street. He died after a long illness. He is survived by his widow, four daughter and one son. They are Mrs. Mary Bonsignore, Mrs. Manuella Cherhcio, Mrs. Frances De Angelo, Mrs Lena Farina and Joseph Militello. A solemn high mass will be in St. Mary's Cemetery under the direction of Migliaccio and Pape." There might be no relation at all. I'm not sure, but its just odd that no one in my family knows who this person is, yet they are buried right by each other with the same exact grave stone too.
