Re: Casassa, Cicagna
Unfortunately there are no microfilm of the civil records for Cicagna, provincia Liguria, Postale 16044 so to trace the births, marriages and deaths you would have to write directly to the local municipal offices Uffio di Stato Civile, Comune di Cicagna, Postale 16044, Provincia Genova, Liguria regio, Italy. can file form 81 with NARA. Go to www.NARA.gov and when the screen comes up select the upper right and check order forms. Form 81 covers all passenger entries into the USA from 1825 so there should be a record of their arrival. if you know where they landed then you can call the regional office of the landing port and obtain information but in that case you need to know when which can be a problem. Re: Casassa, Cicagna
The only record I can come up with is Pietro casassa, aged 13 arriving Boston on 5/24/1882 from le havre france. He was born in Modena and thuis would make his birth year approximately 1869 and far from the 1858 mentioned by you. I am giving you this information for whatever appropriate use it may have for you. PeterChiaves near Lanzo is in the province of Torino and not near Modena.
Re: Casassa, Cicagna
Thank you for the information. I haven't any regarding any other Casassa's. I do know however that Pietro did follow Italian traditions in naming his children. I think that maybe his father's name was Joseph and his mother's was Vittoria. His last visit to Italy in 1911 was to Monastero di Lanzoto visit Mother Vittoria as stated on a ship manifest. Thanks again

Re: Casassa, Cicagna
Is your Pietro Casassa from Illinois? If it is, then he was Naturalized before 1930. He came into the USA in 1889. Caterina came in 1888. In the 1930 census, they have a son, John, living with them. Does this sound familiar?casassa wrote:I am looking for information on Pietro Casassa born May15, 1858 in Chiaves near Monastero di Lanzo. I am getting a copy of this for my geneology. Just wish I knew more about the family that stayed in Italy too.

Suanj,
I can't thank you enough for the information you have provided. When I read your posting I couldn't contain my excitement.
My mother is visiting my cousin in 4 weeks and my cousin has 3 boxes full of family papers. I am hopeful with the information we find and the generosity of Director Carla Casagrande I will be able to find living relatives in Italy. Thank you again.
