Surname Coscino

Post by lilbubba »

Hello to all,
I am the new kid on the block and just joined today. My name is Nikki Coscino. I am curious to learn about the Coscino name and to know more about my long lost family. If anyone can give me some feedback I would greatly appreciate it. Hope to hear from someone soon.
Just in case anyone wonders how I came up with the name lilbubba considering I am a female this is how: When my nephew was born 21 years ago, my dad wanted to be called "Bubba" and the name stuck and everyone from that day on called him Bubba and he loved it. My dad passed away November 11, 1995, he was a great man and I miss him a lot. A lot of his friends call me lilbubba because I am just like my dad in many ways and I am so grateful to have his personality and character traits.

Thanks,

Nikki

There is a lot of genelogy records for Italians and Louisiana so your in an ok situation. May I suggest youbuy the book Italian genealofgical records by Trafford R. Cole which wikll enable you to understand what you are going to encounter. Primarily you habve to work backward from the USA to Italy and the town of origin in Italy is the place for all records and family history. If you know the town we can set you straight. The surname Coscino is not listed as an Italian surname in the italian surname dictionary. Neither is there a word for cosscino in he italian word dictionary. Accordingly it is most likely a local name with a local meaning. Peter

Hi Nikki,
-Coscino is an version from original spelling CAscino
-Coscino/ CAscino surnames are tipically of Sicily...with branches in Campania and Basilicata region...;
-this surnames(Coscino/Cascino)probable have origin from an dialectal diminutive of Cascio original surname

-Cascio original surname coming from Cascia/Cassia gens(family); in fact are an grave of roman age about Cassia gens:"D(is) M(anibus) A(ulus) Cascius Marcianus matri suae Casciae Capriolae pientissim(a)e b(ene)m(erenti) p(osuit)".

-Cascio already is present in Palermo around 1600 year; are this document about an Cascio person(1600 abt): "...Nos praeteritis rivulis istis omnibus, puriorem ex fonte aquam porrigimus; neque gravitier ferimus ad manus nostras non pervenisset vitam, quam (eodem Vincentio teste) Jacobus Cascio Thermitanus Panormi edidit anno MDCXI...".
