Is there a good place to go to start looking for military records. My great grandfather came to the US, but returned to Italy to server during WWI. I dont have any records, only what I have heard from the family.

Hi, hoping well understood..
for all records in Italy about militar service and/or wars, are possible an search in Archivies of State in Italy, but are necessary for request, to know:
-name and surname
-exact birthdate
-birthtown
if you have this info, well, send an email to Archivio di Stato, of town's province ancestors was born... this are all Archive of State in Italy: http://wwwdb.archivi.beniculturali.it/U ... ndice.html

Hi: from details in your private message, I found this:
Please read, I think this is your ancestors:
-Sisto Potarolo (sure Polarolo) age 29 in 1920, son of Cesare, coming from Satujiola (?), final destination new York, joining brother EUGENIO PALAROLO (sure Polarolo), born in Samjsola(?)
Military records are kept at the military district level, Therefore Province of Biella. In the letter you should address the Office of Conscription Records (registri degli Uffici di Leva). Include everything you know about your grandfather to make the search easier for them.
suanj appears to have located his town of origin, so the military district is the Province of Biella.
The letter must be written in Italian. I believe this is the correct address.
ARCHIVIO DI STATO DI BIELLA
via Triverio, 12 13900 BIELLA
Hi Jdipardo,
the our friend have some double about my records, but I'm sure that this is just Sisto Polarolo !
In all ellisisland.org are only this record, my opinion is that this is he... and for birthrecord is possible to write in Salussola common....
many regards, suanj
