Hi Suanj,
Thank you very much for the reply. I looked at the white pages link that you sent me, and I found my mother's aunt, and my aunt (maternal grandmother's daughter). I knew they lived there, but I didn't have their addresses, so now I have that. I am not sure if that Rocco Spano' on the ship's manifest is my grandfather, the dates wouldn't match. But he may still be related somehow, I will have to discuss it further with my mother.
My grandfather traveled to Ontario Canada from Palermiti, CZ, so I am unsure of how to find that out. I don't know the date.
Thank you again for your help.
Regards,
Emily

Would you happen to know any birthdates? Did your Grandfather settle in Ontario as well, or did he just work there?

I'm looking for information on Tomaso Antonio Marcella, b. Feb. 1891 in Palermiti, Catanzaro. His parents were Antonio Marcella and Mary Sica. Tomaso emigrated to New Brunswick, Canada in 1902. He married Methilde Michaud in 1911, and had 7 children. The surname changed to Marshall. In summer of 1932 he wrote a letter to his eldest son from New York City, saying he was looking for work in the construction of tunnels. (Subway?) He was never heard from again. Appreciate any info anyone can share about his location, death, or family and the ship or port he left from. Thanks

Thanks for the correction, Suanj. I've also reposted to a new surname topic re: Marcella.

My Aiello grandparents were from Palermiti, don't really know if they had siblings. I wish I knew.

Not all comune issue CERTIFICATO DI STATO DI FAMIGLIA STORICO which is a family certificate showing the date and place of birth of each family member. You can write to the UFFICIO DI STATO CIVILE (civil registry office for the town of Palermiti) and request the above certificate in the name of your Aiello grandfather's father.

So if you do not know your Greatgrandfather's name you can first request your grandfather Aiello's ESTRATTO DI NASCITA (long form birth record) which will contain his parents names (Your Greatgrandfather ) and then request a family certificate in the Greatgrandfathers name and year of birth from the estratto di nascita=long form birth record.

Youcan obtain the form letter to make these requests from this website.
http://www.angelfire.com/ok3/pearlsofwi ... tters.html and mail them to the MUNICIPIO address found in the website for PALERMITI.

All "Comune" must (by law) issue a CERTIFICATO DI STATO DI FAMIGLIA STORICO through their ANAGRAFE department. This type of certificate is not free of charge and may be rather expensive.
