Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
My husband's mother was Cecelia Ferraro. Her parents were Domenico Ferraro and Lucia Alferi. I have just found Domenico's brothers' immigrations on Boston Ship Lists. Brothers were Matteo and Luigi; they came to Boston in 1904. Trying to read where they came from, it appears to say Torrioni, Avellino. Some family members thought this family was from Tufo, and I notice they are not too far from each other. It seems Domenico may have come to USA as early as 1897, at age 18; but I have not been able find him in the ship lists. Anyhow, anyone with connection to Ferraro-would love to hear from you!

Per the 1904 Ship's manifest for Luigi, it looks like he was from Torrioni which is in the Province of Avellino. It also states he is going to see his brother, Domenico in Boston.
I'll keep looking to see if I find out anything on Domenico.
Have a good one.

Re: Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
Hi Trish,
thanks; that is what I have seen. Matteo came at a different time in 1904 with his wife, Antonia ?Domarina???. Same thing listed: Brother Domenico in Boston. So hard to read the handwriting!
I just can't find Domenico's immigration!!!
On every census he gives a different year of immigration. On 1910, he has the year 1897. He may have come in through Ellis Island, but no one there really fits, either. I can't find Lucia Alferi's immigration either. She may have come more like 1903-1905. It seems more likely they came through Boston, but I think they were married here; so I don't know where in Italy she was from.
I appreciate you checking it out. It doesn't seem there are any Ferraros living in Torrioni anymore, but there are many in the province of Avellino.
Thanks,
Lisa

I checked Matteo's ship's manifest. Antonia's name is Antonia Donnarunna. Even on Ellis Island there were Donnarunna as well as one coming from Torrioni.
Now there is microfilm at your local Family History Center that you can go there and order the film and rent it for about $3.50 a roll.

This link might help you with obtaining Domenico's naturalization records.

I hope this helps.

Re: Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
How old was Lucia when she immigrated?
Re: Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
Hello,
Lucia Alferi was born 9 Mar 1887; and it looks like she came here between 1903-1905; maybe 1902; but I don't think any earlier. Obviously she would have been pretty young any earlier than that and as far as I know her parents were not here, but I could be wrong. Unfortunately, all the people who would know have passed away. It doesn't look like they were married in Italy. It seems they got married here...which is something I was not expecting. Still not sure though.

Re: Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
Okay, I am an idiot...I apologize that I have calculated her birthdate incorrectly. According to Lucia's death certificate her maiden name was Alferi, but I'm sure it could have been Alfieri originally. She died 3 Feb 1966; age 80 yrs 8 mos 24 dys, which according to my "date calculator" would make her birthdate 10 May 1885. It has no info on her parents, only that they were born in Italy; no names.
It is highly possible that these Alfieris you have shown me are related; Brockton being so close to Randolph, MA. In 1907, Domenic and Lucia Ferraro were living in Cambridge, having been married about 2 years.
Thanks so much for looking! I have never heard whether she had any family here; but I could ask around some of my husband's cousins. These are my husband's grandparents...
Thank you!

Re: Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
Hi there,
Unfortunately, I do not know much more than I did then; but since then I have found the record of Domenico Ferraro and Lucia Alferi's marriage. They were married in Boston on 20 Aug 1905; his name was recorded as Domenico Ferrari and her name was recorded as Lucia Alfieri. The names given, on the marriage record, for her parents are: Angelo Alfieri and Teresa Bacchino. I have also seen the Ferraro name recorded as Ferrara.
That is pretty much all I know...I do believe Domenico came from Torrioni, but I still do not know where in Italy Lucia was from.
Where are you/your family from in Italy?

hi, my family and i are from siracusa sicilia.
Re: Ferraro of Torrioni? or Tufo, Avellino
Hi, I am sorry I never responded to your last post. The holidays took over all my time! As I said, the information I gave in the last post is really all I know, but if any of those names ring a bell for you, please let me know. I will look more into your area and see if I can come up with anything. I know there were Alfieri family in the city of Brockton, MA USA; but I do not know if they related to my husband's grandmother. My impression from their memories is that Lucia did not have any relatives close by. I will try to ask some of my husband's older cousins. They may remember more.
What is it like in siracusa? My grandmother's family was from Malfa on the Isle of Salina.

Dear Lisa,
I just came across these posts.
I do have some information on the family, however, I would like to know why you are looking for it and who of Celia's children you are married to???
