Need help with an atti di nascita e de battesimo

Post by perzickles »

We just recently found 3 baptismal documents all from the same church, google translate got us pretty far but we don't understand why the names were written in the following manner:

(infront of this is dates and times and the church) nel distretto di questa Parrocchia, figlio di giacomo firpo tu giovanni di professione contadina domiciliato in clavarezza e di Angela Maria tu Giuseppe de professione contadina domiciliato in clavarezza conjuga Firpo cui fu amministrato il battesimo (something I can't make out) e sono stati imposti li nomi Giuseppe (and then the rest is about the god parents).

The other 2 read exactly the same--different dates and times, parents and godparents.

So what we would like to confirm, based on our translation is that Giuseppe mother is Angela Maria and his father is Giacomo but what is with the tu giovanni and the tu giuseppe?

Thanks for any and all help on this matter.

For the most accurate help, you should upload the documents using a photo sharing program.

I am guessing what you are looking at is figlio di Giacomo, figlio del fu (or possibly fu without the word del in front of it) Giovanni, di professione contadino (meaning Giacomo was the son of deceased Giovanni) and di Angela Maria, figlia del fu Giuseppe (daughter of deceased Giuseppe), coniugi (spouses-or married couple-referring to Giacomo and Angela Maria.

fu before an individual's name means that person is deceased. Firpo is not a word; probably the word figlio (son)

Thanks for your help, unfortunately I only have copies of the documents, making them harder to read, I have asked my Aunt to scan them (they are on blueish paper) and send e-mail them to me. The script is hard to tell the difference between a capital F and the t.

Firpo is our Families' surname, so am I correct in assuming that Giuseppe is Angela's father? adn Giovanni is Gioacomo's father?

If you had capitalized Firpo in your post, I would have realized that it was a surname. Yes, it appears that Giacomo's father was deceased Giovanni and that Angela's was deceased Giuseppe, but again, seeing the actual record would enable me to say for certain.
