In going thru more census papers, I came across my g-aunt's married name of Mary Wara, residing in downtown No. Bergen, NJ. She had one child Catherine born in 1909. She is listed as been married 2 years and not widowed. However, she is not living with spouse. Under column of fathers origin for the child, it is listed Italy.
I check some other records and saw there was a Vincent Wara living with a Peter his son in Orange NJ in 1900. Hoqwever, when I checked the surname here it shows no such name.
Anyone have any ideas???
I cannot locate a marriage license for her in the archives either. I checked back 5 years, in case of mistakes.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Ally

Re: surname Wara
By any chance do you know Mary's middlename?
Re: surname Wara
Is very possible that the just surname spelling is VARA; many Vara people lived in Bergen -NJ; are an Mary Vara in Bergen census 1930, birthyear abt 1872, and an Frank(Francesco) Vara, birthyear abt 1872 also in Bergen...ally wrote:In going thru more census papers, I came across my g-aunt's married name of Mary Wara, residing in downtown No. Bergen, NJ. Re: surname Wara
I do not know Mary Wara's middle name, she did get married in or around the year 1910, she stated in census around 1908. Child born in January 1909. I know she wasn't listed as widowed! She lived with my g-grndparents Francesco/Angeline Venaglio aka Vannelli. She is my great aunt, the sister of my gramother. I am trying to piece together my grams family, however, she was tight lipped about her family. I cannot find any trace of her after 1910 census, none in 1920 or 1930. I do however remember hearing a rumor that her mom remarried a Spina or Spinnelli and moved somewhere in New York around 1916. This told to me by my aunt.
Are you familiar with the Wara name in No. Bergen at that time?

Re: surname Wara
Hi Ally,
A suggestion, Suanj pointed out the surname may be Vara not Wara. Both sound very similar when pronounced. Try searching the cenus again, looking for Vara. Also the marrige records at the NJ archives are alphabetical by groom, by year. If the name was Vara you would have missed it. Could be worth checking again under Vara.
Good Luck
Debbie
