hey everyone-
question: why would someone who has been in america for over thirty years want his birth certificate sent to him? in 1953 , raffaele pesce requested a birth ceritficate from his town chiete, tollo. we are not sure why, and i was wondering if anyone else cuold think of a reason. not only did he do this once, he asked for it twice, again in 1961. we have both copies of these birth certificates. but why would he need them? for immigration? i just dont know and would appreciate some feed back!

birth certificate question
Re: birth certificate question
Hi Dana,
My guess is Raffaele didn't have a birth certificate with him in America. Perhps he never came from Italy with one or lost it. An event occured in his life here in America that required him to prove his age. Perhaps we tried to collect Social Security. Why request two? Did the first certificate get lost or misplaced? Do these dates correspond to him filing first papers or Declaration of Intent for naturalization?
Just my guess.

Re: birth certificate question
Hi Dana,
I got your PM. Just leave your question here unless you need to have the certificate translated.
We can only offer guess at why he would request this certificate. I really think some event occured and he needed to prove his age or identification. Perhaps the first certificate was misplaced and he later needed to prove his age and requested a new certificate. At a later date the original was found.
Do you have any "older" relatives who would have contact with him in 1953. Perhaps someone will remember what happened to cause him to get a birth record from his comune.
