Tedeschi

Post by aroldojr »

Hello!

I recently found out about this forum. Maybe you could help me out with a search that has taken over 5 years already. My family is searching for the place of brith of my great grandfather, who has the Tedeschi surname. Thing is: we are not sure where he was born. There is a record that he married Corina Gustavo (or Gustava) in the Mantova region, so we have been looking - unfruitfully - there.

The second problem comes with his first name. We called him Giovanni Tedeschi, but some people told us that he might've been baptized as Joanne Tedeschi. We have been looking for both names, and all written variations to them (Giovani and Joane).

When they left Italy, some time before they married, they came to Brazil and established themselves in Sao Paulo. They went to the same-named state's inner country after a while and built their family in a city called Aracatuba.

Any help would be most appreciated, since this is a very important and difficult matter for our family.

Thanks a lot,

Aroldo Cardoso Jr.

Hi,
The key maybe the marriage record you have. If it is from the Manatova province of Italy, what town or comune did the marriage occur in. Records are kept on the town level, not province so a marriage record would be recorded in a town. It should give the place of birth and parents names of the bride and groom. Beside the marriage record have you looked for the other records recorded with the marriage? What year did they marry?

We do not know anything specific about the marriage. The only thing we know is that it probably happened between 1870 and 1890.

The marriage is also a big guess. The person I'm looking for is from Sicily, but the woman he married is from Mantova. From the stories that were told to us, we guessed that he travelled all the way from Sicily to Mantova, met her there and married.

Also, a few people told us to look in the Mantova region, which is where we would probably find something.

Is there any way to search all the outlying comunnes in that region? It could be one-by-one (by letter), but how would I find out the exact addresses and know that I had covered the whole region?

They could have married anywhere: in the main city or even in a very small one.
