Corigliano in Calabria

Post by joegov »

In my family tree there are a number of Corigliano ancestors who list their place of birth as S Mauro Marich. I have looked for this town in Italy, but have not been successful in finding it. Most of the rest of this side of the family comes from Calabria and I think it would be most reasonable for this unknown town to be there as well. I have found a San Mauro Marchesato and am wondering if this could be a full name for the town being identified in their records. Does anyone know of a town named S Mauro Marich?? Could San Mauro Marchesato be the town for which I am searching? Is there a church in San Mauro Marchesato that would be a good starting point for birth or marriage records? If this is their town, is there any reason for it to be spelled differently? I have posted this in the locations part of this site and have received a suggestion which I have followed. I was hoping there might be some other ideas. Thanks for any help you can provide. JOE

The surname Corigliano is found in the Comune of San Mauro Marchesato, Crotone Province, Calabria Region :-)

I think that is the correct town.
Until 1992, San Mauro Marchesato was part of Catanzaro Province, now it is part of Crotone Province...

There are currently 12 listings in the Italian Phone Book in San Mauro Marchesato for the surname Corigliano (these are landlines)

You can search the microfilmed records of San Mauro Marchesato at your nearest LDS Family History Center by renting the films. Here is the list of records available to rent.

Are you sure of this place of birth? Or can we be of help in your search? :-)
