Residency for Reclaiming Citizenship

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Residency for Reclaiming Citizenship

Post by argentuban »

Because the line was broken when my mom naturalized, I will have to live in Italy for a period of time. The question I have is this - does this mean I cannot leave Italy, or do I just establish residence there? How does this work? Do I have to stay in Italy and not leave for that whole period, even for vacation or to visit family?

You can leave for short periods, but that must be up your primary residence.

OK. Thanks for that. Short periods meaning 2 weeks? 1 week? Etc.

Yes. You need residency, but even residents occasionally go on vacation.
