Having problems with the Italian language? Do you need help to translate or understand an old family document? There is always someone who can help you!
I have here what I believe to be the marriage record of Nicolo Vona and Vincenza Pampalone.
I cannot determine the parents names of the wedded couple and I'm not sure if the date of the event occurred on the 4th or the 9th. (On the preceding record the 4 had an open top, so I'm inclined to think this event occurred on the 9th).
Any other illuminating information is always appreciated Thanks!
I'm thinking Nicolo's father's name is Antonio Vona and Vincenza's father's name is Michael Angelo Pampelone. But I'm still having difficulty with the mother's names.
Steve the groom's father is Antonino; mother is Giovanna Catalano. I know the letter ell looks like a d, but it's the same formation as in the second witness's name which is Calamia.
Wow! You really are amazing Erudita. I'm looking at a higher res copy and still having trouble deciphering this record. I'm wondering for future purposes if it makes sense for me to upload higher res versions of the records to PhotoBucket. This website reduces the image size but I believe if you click on the image it takes you to the original image on the PhotoBucket site.
I can see Giovanna Catalano now that you've mentioned it. Her given name looks on the record like it could be Joanna (the Latinized form of Giovanna?) I too, was thinking the L in Catalano was a D. I should have known better. Catalano is a common name in the records of Calatafimi.
Can you tell me one more thing? Were the parents (other than Antonia Chiappara, which you've already given me) living or deceased at the time of this event?
Steve I'm on a kindle in hotel room so reading the record has been difficult. Groom 's father deceased. Not easy typing on this device either. Yes Joanna is the LAtin form of the name
Contrary to popular belief, not all Italian given names have Christian or classical roots. Many names encountered in older records are almost whimsical, and some cannot be translated into Latin or any other language. In order to avoid possible mistranscription of a given name with which the research...
