US citizenship

Post by frankcsr »

looking for my wife's grandmother from Ireland. Her name is Wineford Barry(maden name O'Dea. She married Gerald A. Barry 1919 in Brookline Ma. Since he was not a citizen when he was in the US Army he became one after the war. She became a US citizen because she married him. Where can I find info on her becoming a citizen. Where would the records be? Any info on where to search would be great.
Thank you,

Frank,
Welcome to IG Forums.
We mostly work on Italian genealogy, but Irish-American fits in the "Off Topic" category.
Besides, the Italians and the Irish share a common immigrant history in the US. :)

Citizenship (Naturalization) records are kept by the National Archives (NARA). However, the microfilms are kept around the country, depending on which Superior Court awarded the naturalization request. Your best bet is a record request at the NARA website.
Use this link:
http://www.archives.gov/research/naturalization/
Look in the upper right corner for a box with a shopping cart and text:
"Now you can order copies of naturalization records online!"
It's a link to the NARA login page here:

Good luck,
