During my upcoming trip to Abruzzo in 2017, I would like to visit some historical societies in my grandparent's villages. (Nocciano, Popoli and Pescina). Do such places exist in Italy, as they do in many towns both large and small in the U.S.? And what would they be called in Italian? I haven't had much luck searching online, although I did find out about the Museum of Abruzzo which looks interesting, but isn't exactly what I'm looking for.
Thanks for you valuable input!

Check with the town hall and the local library when you get there.
