Post by OrangeBlossom44 »

Please help me translate the birth record for Teresa CANTINO, the sister of my 2x great grandfather. Also, why is this record written in what looks like French? Thank you very much.

I am not seeing any French, but here is what I can see...

#29
Declaration of the birth of a legitimate infant made by the father...
Year 13 of the Republic [1805] on 20 January at midnight before the official in the Town of Frinco...
appeared Francesco Cantino, age about 19, farmer residing in the town, to declare that a female child was born ....October 14 to himself, and to Domenica Batis(?) his spouse, and that said child was given the name Teresa.
Witnesses to the record: Notary Ottavio Varasio, age 40; and Domenico Grosso, ????, age 59, both living in the town.
The father and witnesses signed with the official.

Thank you, Tessa.
Could Domenica's last name be either Balu OR Dalia? Livio saw the name as Balu on another record. AngelaGrace saw it as Dalia. It appears that the birth record was written in French. Both Balu AND Dalia show up as valid French surnames on FamilySearch. What do you think? The shape of the first character in Domenica's first name strongly resembles the first character in Domenica's surname.
Again, thank you for your help!

Upon taking a closer look, I am leaning toward Dalia as the surname.
