Death Record: Francesco Fruguglietti

Post by AngelaGrace56 »

Looking at No 20, left side, where it says "e morto nella Campagna ammazzato", I'm understanding this to mean that he was killed in the countryside? I'm wondering though, whether it might also mean killed as a result of a Campaign of some sort?

Angela
The fact that the word Campagna is capitalized, and that the word ammazzato is used in conjuction with it, indicates to me that he was killed through a violent means while engaging in some kind of military action and was basically left there to die-without anyone coming to his assistance.

How horrible!

Yes, the capitalized Campagna was what got me wondering.

What an ill-fated family back then. This is my 4th Great's brother, her husband (Antonio) drowned at age 40 (1796) (maybe there was more to it?), and then I have a 5th great (Francesco) who was also killed (1809) (ammazzata) by briganti!. I've just looked at that record again and once again Campagna is capitalised: http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0

On looking through some allegati, I noticed that there were others killed the same day in 1809. At the time I was thinking that possibly they were ambushed while working but now I'm thinking that maybe they also were out on a military/political mission? Both these were Sansevrino's, but because they are on different strands and their births well before pre civil records, at this stage I can't see how they might be related. More work to do on this one.

Felice anno nuovo, Erudita, e grazie per l'aiuto!

Hi Angela
It does seem that some families were ill-fated. I found the death record of the brother of my one great grandfather right before Christmas, only to find that he had died in his native Sicilian town from a gun shot wound. Years later, his son, who had come to the U.S. and lived with my great grandfather, shot someone, supposedly accidentally, but was convicted of 2nd degree murder and sentenced to prison. Good thing my grandmother had become estranged from her family after her marriage at a very young age!

Anyway, it's interesting that you found others killed the same day. Definitely warrants further research.

Happy New Year to you too, Angela.
