death record translation
Hi everyone,
Is this the death record (382)for a Santa Stella, age 4, daughter of Bartolomeo and Maria (can't read) Clemente? Is there any other pertinent information I'm missing?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=2043445
thanks!
Jen

There are 2 names that appear in each record: Giovanni and Bartolomeo.
Bartolomeo married Maria Filippa (?) Clemente in 1899 in Altamura Italy (I have this record). I then found a record of him going to US in 1907 (alone) indicating he was going to join his brother Giovanni (see below). I lost track of him after this though, and suspected he may have returned to Italy.
Giovanni married Maria Pallotta in the US in 1911. They had a child about 1913 named Santa Stella. At some point they went back to Italy (around 1914), and then all 3 returned in 1916 along with another child, an infant named ANNA (as per the passenger manifest; I originally read this as Chiara, but looking at it now, it is Anna). In the US, they had another child, Vitantonio Stella born around 1917. At some point they must have gone back to Italy again, as I have an application for a US passport on in 1923 for Santa Stella & Vitantonio Stella (both born in US) that states they wish to return and will be accompanied by their father. Also was curious why Anna was not listed on the passport...I assumed b/c she was not born in US, but now I'm not so sure. I also can't find any evidence that they actually DID return to the US.
I've been hunting through the death notices in the time frame from 1917 to 1923 to figure out why they may have returned (perhaps parents' deaths?). I was surprised to come across these 2 death records for children I didn't know about, and will now have to hunt more closely.

Re: death record translation
And this one (446), also a child of Bartolomeo & Maria Filippa Clemente. My lord! 3 children in a 1 year time period!

However, this doesn't seem to be the Anna mentioned above (she'd be the daughter of Giovanni & Maria Pallotta), and this is the daughter of Bartolomeo correct? I'm very confused!

There are 2 names that appear in each record: Giovanni and Bartolomeo. These two men (Giovanni Stella and Bartolomeo Stella) reported Mariangelo Stella's death.

Yes, this is the daughter of Bartolomeo Stella and Maria Filippa Clemente. Here's the translation which may help to clarify:Jen5525 wrote:And this one (446), also a child of Bartolomeo & Maria Filippa Clemente. My lord! 3 children in a 1 year time period!

Re: death record translation
Thanks Angela! Very helpful!!! But so sad. As mentioned, Bartolomeo & Giovanni were brothers. Its clear they both returned to Italy. Still working to track down whether Giovanni returned to the US and if not, what happened to his other children, Santa (b. 1913 in US), Anna (b. 1916 in Italy) and Vitantonio (b. 1917 in US) as well as his wife, Maria Pallotta. Since the passport application in 1923 is only for Santa & Vitantonio and indicates they will be accompanied to US by their father (no mention of the mother or sister). going back to hunting!
Re: death record translation
so this may answer my question. another child death (age 2), Luigia? Daughter of Giovanni & Maria Pallotta correct?
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cc=2043445
Looks like they stayed in Italy until at least 1929...

Re: death record translation
Then there is this. 1917 death of a Maria Filippa Clemente. But looks like age is 76? so, can't be the spouse of Bartolomeo or the mother of the children above, correct? Wonder if she's related to my Maria Filippa Clemente???
