I'll make this as brief as possible. I have been living in Italy for almost 5 years and its time to get my dual citizenship. My grandfather was italian but moved to italy in 1934 then served in the army in 1942. I have his birth certificate from the comune in Italy where he was born, all the documents (marriage and birth certificates ) from him to me, all with the Apostlile (waiting to translate them) and all i need to know is when he was naturalized. I contacted USCIS and NARA and every other agency I can think of, even signed up for ancestry.com (totally worth it, minus the fact I can't find the one thing I'm looking for), contacted the consulate in NY, and the comune again in Calabria.
My question....
When he served in world war 2, did he renounce his Italian citizenship? how can I prove this?
option B...there is no naturalization record (which you can request an official document stating "non-existence of records")...italy has his citizenship record still (maybe it was never reported???), and I can simply add these to my documents and be on my merry italian way....
side note, if you do italian citizenship as a resident in italy it only cost 16 euro
