Re: Marriage of Segesmondo Lo Truglio & Margarita Leanora Scalisi 1591
His father Geronimo and mother Caterina. I think in front of their names is an abbreviation for a title such as magistro/magistra in Latin or maestro/maestra in Italian. I don't think Leonora's first name is Margarita.
Her father Filippo and mother Prezzosa (?). The other reason I think they are titles is because "del" precedes the abbreviation before Geronimo's name, and "la" precedes the abbreviation before the bride's first name.

Hi Erudita,
Yes, I agree with you about Geronimo and Caterina. I also thought the M.lo was some sort of title too, but what looks like an L before the O is throwing me.
It was the bride's son's record of marriage (also named Geronimo) which led me to this record (see below). On that record, the parents are named as Segimondo and Margarita. But on this record I could read the abbreviation in front of Leanora as M.la (feminine version of the same title before Segesmondo's name?)
Back to the subject record - I'm also unsure of who Alberto Arato is. I can't quite read what's in the stain before his name.

I was actually thinking that the letters up in the air are "co" and could be for a title ending in those letters. The title that comes to mind is "magnifico." I think it means "nobly minded" or "extraordinary." The person wasn't actually nobility but may have had the qualities of a nobleman/noblewoman. I really can't say that's what it is though. I am just brainstorming.
I saw the name Alberto Arato in the record as well, but also can't read what is before his name.

Re: Marriage of Segesmondo Lo Truglio & Margarita Leanora Scalisi 1591
Interesting thought Erudita. I can see how you see the C. (Say that 3 times fast!)
These old records don't provide a whole lot of information. Just the name of the church, the year of marriage and the names of the bride and groom and their parents. No wedding banns, no exact dates, no name of the priest performing the wedding, no witnesses names. That's why Alberto Arato is such a mystery. He seems to be a third person. Maybe a previous husband to the bride? I don't know.
Anyone else have any thoughts?

I'm also thinking that Alberto Arato was the previous husband of the bride. I see the letter "m" before the "di" before his name. This could be an abbreviation for the Sicilian dialettal form of the Italian word "moglie" or "wife," as sometimes the church records had dialect mixed in with them. Standard Italian wasn't in existence this early though, so it would have to be an abbreviation for a dialettal form of the word.

Re: Marriage of Segesmondo Lo Truglio & Margarita Leanora Scalisi 1591
I don't think this is the correct Segesmondo. On his son's record of marriage (Geronimo, dated 1605) it lists the parents as Segismondo and Margarita, but as you've indicated the wife's name here is Leanora. Not only that but the date is too close to the date of Geronimo's wedding - only 14 years apart. Surely, Geronimo would have been a little bit older than 14 when he married.
Another Segesmondo is equally problematic. So it looks like I'll have to go back to the indices to find the correct one.
I'm also having some difficulty locating Geronimo's wife's parents - Michele Lombardo and Sebastiana. The only Michele Lombardo I found was married to a Vincenza and his date of marriage was 1595 - only 10 years apart from Geronimo's wife's wedding date! Not the correct Michele.
Here's Geronimo's wedding record:

I found the marriage of Leonora Scalisi and Alberto Arato in 1584 and, in the index and body of the record, she is just Leonora. I have one more idea which I need to check on.

I don't think he's the correct Segesmondo, but I found only one other in the indices an he wasn't a match either. I was led to believe that Leanora and Margarita were the same person because of the M abbreviation before Leanora's name. But if you think that this could be the correct record, please research it. Thanks!

I think the first name is Gesimundo/Gesimondo in the 1605 marriage record. It looks like it starts with the letter G to me. I see one in the index, but wrong surname. The other thing is that, if the son got married in 1605, he would have been born about 1580. So the parents' marriage record would be earlier and not among the online records, unless you go to the records for the other parish in the town, but I don't see it there either.
