Town name, WWI draft card.

Post by C_Artale »

It's in English, but I can't make it out. Can anyone decipher the town name on this draft card? Thanks.

I assume 'Cisile' is Sicily?

Could very well be, as that's where his wife's family was from.

I couldn't help but notice your last name is Artale. Would you happen to be related to Antonio and Jeanne Artale who lived at 126 Suydam St. in Brooklyn circa 1940? (Ed 24-2338, sheet 2A and 2B)

My great grandfather owned that 6-unit building and Antonio and Jeanne Artale rented an apartment from him. My paternal grandfather, Rocco Acesta also lived there with his wife and 3 children (one of them, my young father).

I'm curious because I had a difficult time finding my paternal grandfather in the 1940 census and I only stumbled upon him when I looked for my great grandfather, Giuseppe Infranco. The census taker had erroneously recorded my grandfather's name as Rucco Artale. I never would have found him searching directly for Rocco Acesta.
