Complicated problem

Post by Anizio »

Please bare with me. This is a long post, but its a complex problem

I have a bit of a puzzle in my genealogy research. If it wasn't my own ancestors I might even call it Interesting.

It starts with my grandfather's grandfather, Celeste Fronzi. According to his marriage and birth records in San Costanzo, he was born in the small town of Isola del Piano. He parents are supposed to be Luigi Fronzi and Maria Fraternali.

In Isola del Piano, there is a birth record in the right year for Celeste Pacifico Girolamo Fronzi on July 18 1865. He is listed as being from the parish of S. Martino Casalduca. His parents are listed as Luigi Fronzi and Maria degli Esposti.

In Isola del Piano there is a death of Luigi Fronzi in 1867 (http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... ewsIndex=0), his wife is Maria Fraternali and his parents are Antonio Fronzi and Caterina Pezzuoli. So far so good, these are all still the same people.

Maria Fraternali has a daughter in 1868 who she names Luigia. She gets in trouble for waiting months to register the birth but the court lets her off because she was depressed since her husband died while she was pregnant. So far everything still checks out.

Then I decide to do more research and things get weird.

Complicated problem part 2

Post by Anizio »

I go backward in the parish records for S. Martino Casalduca, a TINY parish in the tiny town of Isola del Piano. Where I find more:
- Santa Fronzi, died June 10 1864, age 7 and two months, born in San Costanzo, daughter of Luigi Fronzi age 42 and Maria Batisti.
https://postimg.org/image/g4x2j09lr/
- Celeste Fronzi, son of Luigi Fronzi and Maria Batisti, age 5 born in San Costanzo, died June 13 1864.
https://postimg.org/image/vbo5jgtal/
- Pacifico Fronzi, son of Luigi Fronzi and Maria Batisti, age 2 and 3 months, born in San Costanzo, died June 7 1864.
https://postimg.org/image/qzqpi58x5/
- Maria Espota, wife of Agostino Fronzi (presumed brother of Luigi Fronzi, since they both appear as witnesses for each others records all the time) age 47, died July 20 1864.

So now things are getting weird because now "Maria" has 3 names...Fraternali, degli Esposti, and if this is still the same family, Batisti.

I could not find those 3 children in San Costanzo, so I went to the frazione of Cerasa. And there, in May 24 1855 is Pacifico Fronzi born of Luigi Fronzi qm Giovanni Antonio Fronzi and Maria Esposta.
And on the same page is Paterniano Fronzi, son of Agostino qm Giovanni Antonio and Maria Romani.

So at this point, I trace this family of two brothers going back and forth between Cerasa (frazione of San Costanzo) and the parish of S. Martino in Isola del Piano. Yet the names of the women seem to be all over the place.

Then just to make it more complicated, in 1820 in Ceresa I find the birth of Luigi Fronzi, son of Antonio di Biagio and Caterina di Angelo....Rossi.

So at this point I have no idea what my female ancestor's (Luigi's wife's or mother's) name even is or if these are the same people or what the devil is going on here :s Aiutami!

If you'd like to add some mess, here is the marriage of one Alma Fronzi, daughter of Agostino and deceased Maria Cecchi :-) :

I have contacted the Archive of Pesaro asking them for the allegati to Celeste's marriage, hoping it would contain more information. But it might not.

Wow that marriage record was actually very helpful. I went into the parish records in Cerasa, and there it was:

"3/2/1847, Alma Fronzi baptized. Daughter of Agostino Fronzi di Giovanni Antonio Fronzi e Maria Dicecchi detto Romani. Godmother was Maria Esposta."

So to me that seems like it adds to these all being the same people in all these documents?

I also found a birth record for Agostino Fronzi in Cerasa in 1814, son of Giovanni Antonio Fronzi and Cattarina Rossi.

But then I found the death of Luigia Fronzi, daughter of Luigi. In 1876 in Cerasa in the parish records, and her mother is listed as "Maria Romani" - which clearly can't be right because Romani was Agostino's wife's alias. So it almost seems like my ancestor "Maria Esposta" went by a number of surnames at different times. That seems strange to me :s

Unfortunately finding records older than 1860 in Isola del Piano is difficult. I have heard rumours there was a fire, but either way so far the parish wont answer me.

So I think I found the marriages of both Luigi and Agostino,

For Maria Esposta, there is some reference to a "conservatorio di Fano" - perhaps S. Michele. Would there be some archive that keeps track of foundlings relating to this place?

Sometimes, foundlings were not given surnames. Hence the reference to 'degli esposti' (of the exposed). If they survived to marry a surname would be assigned at that time. You would need to study other foundlings in the town to know if this was the case. If she wasn't assigned a surnae officially she may have created her own. I have seen this in other towns.
