Giuseppe Citera, 47yo, contadino, living Sanza, reported that at 7.06 pm on 19 of the current month, from Teresa Ciorciari, his wife, living with him, was born a male baby who he presented and named Nicola.

No mention of grandfather's name. You should find this on the marriage record of Giuseppe and Teresa. Some birth records do mention the father's father, but not all – usually it's the earlier records.

Hi Diane

Not sure how you have got on looking for Giuseppe and Teresa's marriage record? I had a quick look through the marriage indices yesterday but didn't see a marriage record for them. I noticed that the 1880 marriage and marriage banns were missing, so it's quite possible they married that year. (When was their first child born? Giuseppe was 47 when Nicola was born so they may have been married for a while already.) Or maybe Teresa was born in a neighbouring town, which is where you would find her marriage record. There would still be marriage banns posted in Sanza though, which would appear in Sanza, Part II. I didn't look at all the Marriage Banns indices.

Thank you so much Angela. I too have been searching without luck to find their marriage. I only have Nicola born 1894 and Antonio born 1900. Now I will start searching for birth records of any other children. This is Antonio's birth record, I haven't had it translated yet.

Maybe this will tell us more?

Thanks

Birth Record: Antonio Citera

Post by AngelaGrace56 »

Birth No 48: Antonio Citera
Sanza: 12 July 1900, 11.15 am
Giuseppe Citera, 53 (1847), contadino, living Sanza, reported that at 5.30 pm, on 9 July 1900, from Teresa Ciorciari, his wife living with him, was born a baby boy who he presented and named Antonio.

Witnesses: Gennaro Bianco, 35, civile, and Cesare Bianco, 62, Farmacista.

Unfortunately, this doesn't give us any extra information about Giuseppe and Teresa. I've gone through the banns but didn't see anything there for Giuseppe and Teresa, so it's a bit of a mystery really.

Unless you have found any other births prior to 1880, I'm picking that this couple were married during 1880, the year that either no civil records were kept, or they for some reason were not filmed? There also don't seem to be any birth records for 1880 so I'm picking that the records were not kept for that year for some reason?

Angela, wow what a find! I know that in the 1950's my grandmother (Gelsomina Zambrotta) born in 1898 in Sanza was a widow and wanted to marry again and when she sent away for her birth record she was told that many of the records were destroyed during the war, which war, I don't know. Also I know when I went to look up Francesco Zambrotta's death record in 1880 it said Non Consultabile. So I assume all of 1880 records are not there. Thank you so so much for this find Angela, and for Antonio Citera Birth record translation.
