Help with a few translations?

Post by brianpatrickross »

I was lucky enough to have a local historian in the former town my ancestors that was willing to help me conduct research. I was also lucky that he found a bunch of documents that he was able to send to me. However, I'm unlucky in that I'm not very good at reading/translating 1800's-era Italian. I was hoping to get some help with a few documents and then I'm going to try to figure out the rest on my own. I would VERY much appreciate some help!

There are a handful of words I can't seem to find translations for such as jua, ceoto, nil, doffo, etc

https://ibb.co/jYfz6Q - baptism
The man that helped me said that somewhere on this page is the baptism record for Giacomo Moreschi, but I cannot find it or read any of the handwriting

https://ibb.co/iVFct5 - marriage
These seem to be very similar, but there are a ton of names and it's hard for me to see how they all connect

The baptism is in latin. I will defer to others here at the forum to translate for you.

The first marriage posted:
#4 on 6 February 1878
Pietro Blam, son of deceased Giovanni [Blam] and deceased Maria Gelmi, born 12 November(?) 1859, has verbally contracted marriage with Giovanina Clemente, daughter of Clemente and of Giovanina Luigia Moreschini, born 3 January 1857. Also present were Archpriest Berardi, Sacrist Moreschi, and Bortolo Gelmi.

Here is the marriage that you posted second...

Act #10 on 25 May 1873
Giacomo Moreschi, son of Francesco and Maria Moreschi, unmarried, born 14 July 1850, has verbally contracted marriage with Teresa Blam, unmarried, born 20 November 1851. Also present are: Archpriest Berardi, Sacrist Pietro Moreschi and Bittino Moreschi, to act as witnesses.

The Giacomo Moreschi in the baptism doesn't seem to be the same as the marriage. However...
Date of baptism: 19th of the same month of records before.
Born at 5 in the night before.
Giacomo was the first born child of Giacomo, son of deceased Giacomo, son of deceased Lorenzo
and of Bartolomea, daughter of deceased Carlo Bonetti.
Giuseppe "Pippo" Moccaldi

The folks on this forum are so helpful! This is a wonderful resource.

@Tessa
Thank you! Your translations were very helpful. Regarding the marriage record from 6 Feb, in your experience is it odd that Giovanina Clemente's father is noted as only "Clemente" with no first name? I think that's why I was having such a hard time reading this one.

Would you be willing to take a look at the "Stato delle anime fine" document? There is a lot of information there, but I'm only interested in what it says about Faustino Blam and Caterina Zaina.

@PippoM
Thank you for the help. I agree that it can't be the right Giacomo Moreschi as these baptism records are from 1847 but Giacomo's birth year in his marriage records is noted as 1850. The names of parents also don't agree. I will have to point this out to my helpful town historian and see what he thinks.

@Tessa
Below is the baptism record for Giovanina, which if I'm reading it correctly also does not give a first name for her father. Your insight would be greatly appreciated.

You have probably noticed that the father on records is usually only identified by his given name, the surname being understood. You will only see the surname if it is different from the child's.

What I overlooked in the marriage is that the surname is Clementi. The father's given name is Clemente. So his full name is Clemente Clementi.

That is also the case in Giovannina's baptism.

#2
dated 3 January 1857
Giovannina Clementi, daughter of Clemente [Clementi] and of Luigia Moreschini, born 3 January 1857, baptized on the 4th. Godmother was Giovanina Clementi, paternal aunt.
