Diane
I'm not sure of the month on this record. 15, 1795. The preceding records appear to be in January, but the month on this one doesn't look like that to me. The infant's name was Onuphria in Latin, Onofria in Italian. She was born yesterday night. Parents were Vincenzo Mistretta and Lucia Cannone. Godparents were Maestro* Antonino Cannone and Angela Bosco, wife of Michele

It's written "eiusdem", so, the same month as the preceding records.

Thank you,Erudita & Pippo, I don't know how you are able to read some of these records, sometimes I can pick out the parents name or month but some of the records look like they are scribbled. My compliments to you! :)

Thanks, Diane. These records are definitely a challenge, but I'm trying hard to get better at deciphering them. Two years of high school Latin, way back when, have certainly not helped. As always, I appreciate backup from Pippo, and the other volunteers who can read the Latin records.

Hi Pippo
I think native Italians have studied Latin for a lot more years than those of us who attended Catholic high schools in the U.S. ever did. I also never expected to use Latin, which I studied for only two years when I was ages 14 and 15, all these years later. I honestly know more Latin now than I did in those days. Again, I always appreciate your help in deciphering these Church records, as we both share the same goal as volunteers, and that is to give posters the most accurate info that we can, from the records they upload to the forum.
