I am going through records on Family search and came to this record title "Stati D'Anime" and I have no clue what it means any help would be greatly appreciated.
it means "state of the souls"- a type of parish census record-lists all of the living members of a household and info such as the age of the individuals and relationships. Originally it was created in the Papal States as a population census for tax purposes. Taxes were based on the number of working males in the household. Also, if foundlings were taken in by a family, they would be listed in these records with the family.
Good luck with them, Diane. I quickly looked at the ones in Alcamo. and I think you have to go image by image-no indices-so very time consuming, and they're not alphabetical according to first or last names. I honestly don't know what determined the order in which the families were listed. Also the specific info in these records varied from parish to parish, as well as how often these records were compiled by a parish.

Again, you're very welcome, Diane. Yes, I would do the records with the indices first. Then hopefully you'll find time to go through these other church records. One other thing about the state of the souls records-married children will be listed separately. Deceased children, not at all. And ages given may not be exact, which is why, if you can locate the baptism/birth records, you would be better off.
