Name of mother in Giuditta Gallo's 1832 death act

I could use some help deciphering the mother of my 3rd great grandmother Giuditta Gallo in her death act from Feroleto Antico. Her father was Giuseppe and it sure looks like her mother's name starts with a "G".

Well my best, at the moment is, Enica Sancala/Sancola? .....? Enica may be a shortened form of Domenica?

Do you still have the film out? Are the indices there for you to check? Another option might be to look for death records belonging to Giuditta's syblings and hopefully the mother's name might be clearer there. A really tricky read.

Thanks, Angela. I still do have the films out so I'll check the index next time I go to the library. Good thought on looking for other Gallo death records with father Giuseppe. I'm familiar with surnames in Feroleto Antico and surrounding comunes but just can't find anything that fits

Biff, I'm actually thinking now that the second name that is there ends in "da" and could possibly even start with an "i"? Not sure.

Back again. Here is the listing in the index for Giuditta's death, #20 last one. Mother's surname appears to be Medaglia. Before that is a marriage record for her brother Agostino. I'm seeing mother Eugenia? Medaglia.

Does anyone else see Eugenia as the first name of the mother?

Great, you were able to locate these. Surname, definitely Medaglia in both the Marriage Record and also the Death Index. I see Eugenia in the Marriage Record but I personally really can't see Eugenia in neither the death index nor the death record. It's quite confusing?

I have been studying this since you posted the death act, and like both of you...I am puzzled.

Add to that the fact that the name on line 19 of the death index (immediately above Giuditta) looks like the same name that was listed as her mother.

MAYBE There is a further clue in that death act????

Happy to help, Biff. (After Tessa's comment here, I've taken another look at the death record, and what I'm thinking is, that maybe they have written Genia, a shortened form of Eugenia?)

Great catch on the listing above Giuditta. It could be her mother. I'm very familiar with Feroleto and surrounding towns' records and this is the first time I remember seeing the surname Medaglia. I'll check end of week when I return to review films. Thanks.

Looking back at the death act - you could certainly make a case for Genia Medaglia as the mother's name.

Finally made it back to the library to check the microfilm where I located Genia aka Eugenia Medaglia's 1832 death act which does not show parents' names. In doing some additional checking of death acts I located two other Medaglia death acts which did not have parents' names. I'm guessing the Medaglia surname at one time was used for foundlings/abandoned children.

On another note, I have been having continual trouble logging into IG. For whatever reason, the firewall has banned me from the site. Edmondo is trying to verify the trouble which I'm hoping will be rectified since being unable to be part of IG is driving me nuts. I'm sending this email from the local library where I view microfilm.
