She died 10 January 1892
Re the occupation Villica (female) Villico (male) Villici (plural), I've mostly seen this translated as farmer.
You might be interested in the following about Villici, which Erudita has written:
"The villici were landless, poor peasants, who lived in crude dwellings with their families, outside of the village center, near the fields they tended. Once a year they would present themselves in the village piazza to seek a contract for the next growing season. Sometimes they would be granted the same plot of land to farm; at other times, a different one kilometers away, or even no plot at all. In the absence of supervision, the villici did nothing to improve the land. Their drive for sustenance forced these temporary laborers to exploit the land, sow on nearby plots which had been designated to remain fallow, and to emphasize quantity over quality."

You are very welcome, brogie 62. Good job on the translation - it's great to have some more translators on board, especially now, with more records going on line all the time.

Can I ask where you are seeing the death date as the 10th? The record date is the 11th is it not?

Re: Death record translation help please
Indeed, the record is dated 11 January (that is the day the death was registered) but in the body of the record it basically says that "they reported that at the hour 1.30 pm yesterday (ieri), died Maddalena Gobber........"lmarsango wrote: 26 Oct 2017, 00:04 Can I ask where you are seeing the death date as the 10th? Sometimes you will see the word "oggi" (today), when the deceased passed on the same day.
(Sorry for the lag, I had a phone call.)

I am not any sort of experienced translator. I have taught myself over the last couple of years to glean the key information from the records. Some detail is lost on me but I am still learning.

Re: Death record translation help please
Ok thank you. I'll have to try to remember that. I'm sure I have a few dates wrong. I've barely learned to read the date of the record and the parents names and places of birth. (I can kind of pick out the important things) It's a real challenge, but I'm finding I don't have to look up every single date now.

Well that's great, because on this site we are all learning together. It's fantastic because there are always new words popping up in these records that we have to research because we are not sure of their meaning. I'm passionate about languages, and especially dialects of Italia, so I'm always excited to see dialectal words appear in the records.brogie62 wrote: 26 Oct 2017, 00:20AngelaGrace56 wrote: 26 Oct 2017, 00:02 You are very welcome, brogie 62. Re: Death record translation help please
And I have a quick question if any of you know. ...so Maddalena Gobber was born in a part of Italy that was at the time in Austria and ruled by the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Would her family heritage be Austrian or Italian?
