I’m trying to help a friend get signed up for Familysearch.org so he can view his family’s Italian documents. He says it’s not working and he can only see US.
Do you have to be LDS to view the Italian documents on their site?

Re: FamilySearch.org
No, you do not. There are some records collections, though, that can only be viewed at a Family History Center.
Re: FamilySearch.org
Please note that a lot of the Italian civil registers which can only be viewed at a Family History Center could alternatively be viewed on the Antenati Italiani website:
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/
This is the page with all the links to the various state archives documents subsites:
http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.it/?q=gallery
Apparently, FamilySearch cannot show those documents to the general public due an agreement with the Italian government.
I have written to the relevant branch of the Italian government to ask them to change this policy, as I cannot see who would be harmed if those documents could be viewed on both FamilySearch and Antenati Italiani, but unfortunately I have never received any feedback.
