Giovanni D'Avino, age 60, peasant, widower of deceased Rosangela Vecchia, son of deceased Marciano (D'Avino)-his mother's name is not in this record-died on Oct 24, 1841 in the town of San Rocca Felice. The police proceeded to recognize the cadaver in the Cappella di Purgatorio (chapel) in the town on the 25th, and the town of Rocca San Felice received the death act from the police on the 26th. So, he died in this chapel. Time of death, and cause of death, are not given in the record.

Re: D'Avino, Giovanni DEATH
Thanks, Erudita; wonder why the police were involved.

From what I can tell, the police went to the chapel to check his body and confirm that he was, in fact, dead. As I previously stated, the exact cause of death is not given in the record. Maybe he just had a heart attack and collapsed, or just dropped dead from some other health related issue. I don't see anything in the record to indicate that the police believed that there was foul play involved in his death, but maybe foul play was suspected and that's why the police were involved. I've never seen an Italian death record before, where the police were involved.
