1857 Marriage Record (Russo-Ruggeri)

Post by mjclayton1 »

Salve, tutti-

I've made what I'm pretty sure will turn out be a major, major... MAJOR... discovery for me in terms of trying to figure how I'm a wee-bit Italian. I won't bore you with all the gory details, but would appreciate the absolute most detailed breakdown possible of the attached link/record:

http://www.antenati.san.beniculturali.i ... 1.jpg.html

I could abstract most of the relevant info myself, but this one is just way too important. Therefore, I need to defer to the absolute BEST people here, and that's YOU!!!

To be clear, I'm speaking of the marriage record (numero d'ordine 2) between Giacomo Russo and Grazia Ruggeri. He, being from Camaro Superiore and her, hailing from Saponara.

Thank you VERY MUCH in advance. There is still a TON of research/work for me to do, but I'm just utterly convinced that this will be turn out to be an extraordinarily key record for me (a "feeling"). I'm so unbelievably shocked/thrilled/dumbfounded right now, I can't even begin to explain it!!! :D

Hi, T-

Wow, that is so incredibly detailed. Thank you so much for this! It is so appreciated!!!

I also found Grazia'a 1835 birth record today, but don't know if you can read it well. I was at the local FHC, so the link is restricted (and I'm now at home). Sorry for that inconvenience! Do the attachments suffice?

Thanks again ever so much. This is really fun! :-)

I agree with Livio :-) that the mother's surname in this record is Gangemi (though it was written Cangemi in the marriage act above :-) )

Given names of the parents are written as Catterina and Filippo in this record.

Baptism on the 24th at the parish church of San Nicolo.

Hi, T-

Yes, although I've only recently started paying more attention to this, I've seen the "G" and "C" in the "Gangemi" surname being somewhat interchangeable in the Messina records. When I saw the Ruggeri and Gangemi references in this record it really seemed like I had made a significant leap. Assuming I'm correct, now I just need to figure out how Grazia connects to one of my DNA matches from Saponara.

Almost assuredly, I connect with this DNA match on his maternal side, as his mother, grandfather, great-grandfather, 2x great grandmother and 3x great grandfather are Gangemi's. There are also Mortelliti's in his Tree (another recent string here - one that I've only briefly dabbled in), as well as a reference to a Vinci - another surname match in my 23andMe results, albeit a very distant one. However, this DNA Match's Tree does not have any Ruggeri connections, so this is going to be where the rubber meets the road, as they say. My strongest DNA match at 23andMe is a Campagna and my next a Lopresti. All of these names are in the Messina records, so I suppose there is still hope I'll someday figure it all out (although it still seems daunting, and I take nothing for granted here).

Thanks again to you (and now Livio) for pitching in and helping me here. You guys are such an incredible resource! Really, it boggles my mind how consistently helpful all the people here are!!! :D
