Compiere?

Post by jml1991 »

Can anyone tell me what the profession "compiere" would be? This is written as the profession of the father on an 1837 birth certificate. Thanks!

Most likely what you are seeing is "campiere" - fieldworker.

Always best to post the record if you can :-)
