records from Schignano, Italy

In my research for my family from Schignano I have found that the available records only go back to the mid 1800's. I think this was about the time of the Austrian Hungarian invasion. Could records beyond this tie be in those countries? If so haw can I find them. Thank you for your help. Teresa Peduzzi
