Does anybody belong to or know of a group or website that matches peoples tested autosomal DNA by grouping people regionally? Like a group of just southern Italians? Or a group of just people from Basilicata?

Re: Southern Italian DNA
Hi have you tried Ancestry.com we done my Dads dna through them & you can look through the southern Italian links they find. It separates it into areas but not as defined as a local area.
Turns out our family rumour of a pow and our nan were true lol

Re: Southern Italian DNA
While sites like Ancestry, FamilytreeDNA, and 23&me can give approximate % regional ancestries, they are very rough guesses. Use them as a starting point but don't put too much faith in their accuracy.

Re: Southern Italian DNA
Both my Italian grandparents came from Napoli/Salerno. Ancestry DNA test showed Italian results. My test with MyHeritage did not show Italian, but Greek/Mideast ancestry. At first I thought MyHeritage was just inaccurate, but maybe Napoli residents have Greek roots!
Re: Southern Italian DNA
This is as "specific" as Ancestry has gotten for me so far. I'm hoping as they get more data they can get more specific. I went into this as a 75% Italian and 1/8 Irish, 1/8 Swedish person. After doing this I've learned a lot about how much Sicily was invaded probably leading to more diversity than I expected. European Jewish and Caucasus were big surprises.
I've been told anything less than 1% is 'statistical noise' thus probably not reliable or useful. But I just thought it was interesting that i'm coming up less than 1% Irish when I had a grandfather who thought he was 1/2 Irish.
Ethnicity Estimate
Europe South 52%
Sicily
European Jewish 10%
Caucasus 10%
Great Britain 9%
Low Confidence Regions
Iberian Peninsula 5%
Scandinavia 4%
Europe West 3%
Asia South 2%
Europe East < 1%
Ireland/Scotland/Wales < 1%
Middle East < 1%
Finland/Northwest Russia < 1%
Africa North < 1%

Re: Southern Italian DNA
That's interesting, my ancestors come from Stigliano, Basilicata and residents there for a long time, DNA by myheritage shows 0% italian, but 25% Balkan, I thought the same about migration, perhaps different systems have different results?estwanick wrote: 25 Feb 2018, 01:29 Both my Italian grandparents came from Napoli/Salerno.
