Hi all, looking for some validation here.
I think I have found my ancestor Francesco Bono in this Atto di Nascita in Modugno. But it's very different from other birth records I have seen. There's no mother or father listed to connect him with his given name. The index lists him as Francesco Bono D'Ignoti.
I can't make out what it says about the mother, is it una donna che non consente di essere nominata (a woman who does not agree to be named)?
After the witnesses, I think it says the baby was sent to the president of the congregation of charity (Detto bambino viene da me inviato al Signor Presidente di questa Congregazione di Carita) by the midwife who presented him, along with a copy of the birth record.
Incidentally, Francesco, when applying for his social security number, named as his parents Luigi Bono and Rachele Loschiano. Grazia Mele, the midwife who presented the baby, I think is related to the Loschiano; she is named as the wife of Vitangelo Loschiano and the mother of Matteo Loschiano in Matteo's death record. I suppose it's possible Rachele adopted Francesco, but where would I find that?

Welcome to IG website
Francesco Bono is a foundling the mother is a woman chosen not to named it is possible his parents Luigi Bono and Rachele Loschiano could have married later and recognized him as their child it would be written in their marriage act

Thanks Marty.
Having done some additional research, it's pretty clear the surname Bono was given to him by the Ufficiale.
There is a married couple from that time period in Modugno, Rachele Loschiavo and Luigi Mastromarco (married 1874, #48). They had a few children before and after my bisnonno's birth but most of them seemed to have been stillborn or died very young:
1877, #267 (died 1877, #277)
1878, #271 (died 1878, #274)
1879, #194
1884, #394
1886, #130 (died 1886, #132)
If they were already married and adopted Francesco, where would that be recorded? How would I ask the stato civile about the possible adoption (and would they even have that information)?

Hi,
adopted legally ... no... surely no, otherwise the his surname would have become Loschiavo... most probably they raised Francesco, behind payment of Commune... many families offered to grow the foundlings by payment... and this money was very helpful for a family.... they all ate with that money.....
regards,
suanj
