My cousin in Italy sent me a copy of my adopted great grandmother's birth record. Unfortunately, it is a very poor copy. In spite of it being very difficult to read, I was able to translate most of it. Can you take a look and tell me what it says in red?
I think she was wrapped in a white band and a wool sweater?
who was Domenica Frittella? the mid wife??
anything else of importance that I missed?
am I understanding correctly that the woman who gave birth was at the town hall the day the birth record was recorded but she doesn't want to be named?
Would be so grateful to get as much information as possible with this record. I am hoping with my family's dna to be able to pinpoint my great grandmother's descendants.
Thank you!

There are two individuals who appeared at the town hall to declare the birth-the infant's mother did not appear. They were peasants in the town, ages 59 and 54, and they were assisting on the part of a woman who did not consent to be named (the mother) by declaring the birth. Domenica was the wetnurse to whom the infant was consigned-. Infants in those days had to be breastfed.

one more question Euridita, when you state "the mother did not consent to be named" does that mean "they" (the witnessess etc) that appear in the record "knew" who the mother was or is that just a formality and it doesn't mean they actually "knew" who the mother of the child was.

My understanding is that the declarants knew the mother's identity, but were complying with her wishes that her identity remain anonymous, when they reported the birth at the town hall. The infant's father was uncertain, according to the record.
