Capobianco in Fringenti

Post by cwgrlbelle »

I finally got a town off my great grandfather's WWI draft card. He has listed his place of birth as Fringenti, Avellino, Italy.

Would anyone with experience in Italy please advise if his full name, dob and the above location would be enough to take me on to something else?

thanks!!

In the province of Avellino, there is a comune called Frigento which seems to be the most obvious possibility for your ancestor's birthplace.

The LDS folks have microfilmed the civil vital records for Frigento for the period 1809 to 1910. If you have access to an LDS Family History Center and are so inclined, you can order the microfilms and begin the joyful process of learning to research these records. If you have his birth date, that is a very helpful start.

An alternative approach, if the LDS idea doesn't work for you, would be to write to Frigento and request a copy of his birth record.

I would also suggest to contact the civil record office of Frigento

Comune
Ufficio di Stato civile
Piazza Municipio
83040 Frigento (AV)
Italy

or contact

Archivio di Stato di Avellino

http://wwwdb.archivi.beniculturali.it/S ... VELLINO%22

If you need parish record contact this church

S. Maria Assunta in Cielo
Piazza Duomo, 83040, Frigento, (AV)

The town you are looking for is most likely Frigento. My grandfather (Charles Pugliese) was from there and there were many Capobiancos.

There is also a site where you can look up people by town, and submit names of your relatives for that town http://www.avitrees.com/welcome.jsp

Did he come by boat? Also try Ellis Island.org -- I found my grandfather's records there
