Rome Restaurants

Post by TerraLavoro »

As a frequent visitor, I have a few favorites that I return to, but I wonder if any of you would be kind enough to recommend a few of your favorites?

Anything within the ring-road is of interest. Thanks in advance.

A favorite restaurant of mine and my husband's when visiting Rome in 2013 was Matriciana, Via del Viminale, 44. :-)

I live in Roma, and I usually go to restaurants near where I live (East, inside the ring road).
In the center, I find them too for tourists or expensive (or both). I'd recommend you some Jewish restaurant, like "Ba'ghetto" (several ones), or a more "creative" one: "Il viaggio", via Isonzo 14.
In my area, several "traditional" ones. If you think you can go to a district such as Centocelle, I can list some.

Thank you PippoM....Centocelle is fine for me, so I look forward to your list. I agree that when the restaurant is all tourists, they usually disappoint.

So, I'd say:

"La cantina di Dante", via degli Olivi 51 (Centocelle)
"la Lupa", piazza delle Iris 13 (Centocelle) This is very small and with a short menu, but he cooks just in front of you
"Il Quagliaro", Largo Mola di Bari 17 (Quarticciolo) Still looks like an old Roman Hostaria
"Hostaria 100celle", via delle Acacie 122 (Centocelle)
"Il Coccio", via dei Meli 34 (Alessandrino)

Not in this area, I'd also suggest
"Il Maestrale", piazza Elio Callistio 5 (fish, more expensive)

When you come, let me know, I'd be glad to know you!

No, I've never been there.
I just checked online, and it seems to be a special eating experience.
If I try it, I'll let you know, though I'll have to contact them in advance, as I'm a celiac, and I'm not sure they can serve me.

Oh, yes! I must say it's beautiful to see, though there must have been some typically Italian design errors that make it uncomfortable for some aspects. I've been using it to go to work since yesterday.

We ate at Osteria Barberini when in Rome a few years ago. Very good - especially if you like truffles.
