Death record for Francesco d'Accomando

Post by jml1991 »

Having great difficulty with the attached death from 1666 for Francesco d'Accomando of Prizzi, Sicily. Other than his age (56), I can't see any other identifying information, such as the name of a parent or wife, but maybe I am missing something. Can anyone see anything that might help me know if he is the Francesco d'Accomando I am looking for? Thank you!

I see that his body was buried in the Chiesa del SS Crocifisso. He had received the sacraments-the Eurcharist, Confession/Penance, and Extreme Unction (the Last Rites). I also think the word after circiter (about) -as his age of 56 is just an estimate-about age 56-looks like the plural of sacerdote or sacerdoti (priests). Then the record may refer to a particular order of priests, but I'm not sure. So, since the word is plural, and he doesn't have a title, I don't believe he was a priest. The word "sacerdoti" is possibly referring to the priests who administered the sacraments, but I'm not sure. No parents' names or name of a wife in the record. Sorry.

Thank you so much. I think you are correct in saying that the word sacerdote may refer to the priest who administered the sacraments, as I have noticed that most of the other death records from about this time in Prizzi also had that same phrasing.

I think "sacerdoti" is not plural, but a Latin dative case, referred to "D. Joseph Manchuso cap(pella)no". In this case, there would be an error, as he should have said (I think) "a sacerdote" (ablative).

Thanks for checking over what I had deciphered. I also saw the name Joseph and the last name (which I had written in my notes in Italian as Mancuso), and even the abbreviation. What had me confused is that what is written in front of the name Joseph looks like "di" and not "D" to me. Also the word sacerdoti (which looked plural). My knowledge of Latin cases is also extremely rusty. Anyway, I'm inclined to believe your understanding is correct and, as always, appreciate your help. Grazie.

You're very welcome. Church records are tricky, as there was no set format for them. I also believe that Pippo's explanation of the section of the document that was giving me trouble is correct.
