Giacomo Pasquale Gennaro Cerbone death in 1901

Post by khoney »

Please help with this translation. I can make out enough to confirm this is the person I am looking for but I am also missing a lot such as his profession and where he was when he died? I do not see a reference to his wife Gaetana Colletti who was still living but had immigrated to the US with son Antonio. What is the word in the left column below Number 2?

Giacomo Cerbone, age 45, born in Afragola, son of deceased Antonio and of deceased Brigida Manna or Menna

Thank you

In the far right column it says number 2, transcription (trascrizione), Cerbone Giacomo

Starting on the 5th line of text "Civile del Comune..." official of the Comune di Afragola having received the copy of the death record of Giacomo Cerbone from the Comune of Nicosia I transcribed verbatim the following:

Official of the Comune of Nicosia - extract from the death register, part 2, Giacomo Cerbone, son of Antonio, deceased, - Number one - February 16, 1901, at 2:50 in the afternoon...
(lines skipped)
... that this morning was found dead at the cemetery entrance, Giacomo Cerbone, age 45, clerk, born in Afragola, son of Antonio (deceased) and of Brigida Menna (deceased) landowners who before death lived in Afragola, living as a single man.

By conforming copy for transcription purposes from Nicosia,27 February 1901...

Thank you so much. Did it say if Giacomo was residing in Nicosia?

It's much easier to read on the original record in Nicosia. You might take a look and copy that too. Yes, it says that he was a resident of Nicosia. Number 1 indicates that it is the first death record in the second section of the Nicosia death records for 1901. If you follow the link to the record below, you can scroll back a page and see where part II begins. Be sure to zoom in - it's very clear and legible handrwriting.

Thank you for the explanation and link. Do you have any suggestions on how I can find out more regarding Giacomo’s death? I could not locate any newspapers in Nicosia from this time period and the online resources on Family Search are very limited. His age and the location of his death have me curious.
