Help translating marriage document

Post by mkaykrista »

I'm having trouble discerning names from this marriage document for my ancestors Arsenio Amabile and Maddalena Episcopo. I know that Arsenio's father is Antonio and Maddalena's father is Giuseppe, but am having trouble finding/reading the mother's names, or any grandparent's names. Thank you!

Dated Feb 23, 1870 at 9 P.M. in the town hall of S. Arsenio

The groom, Arsenio Amabile, was never before married, age 32, and a peasant born and living in Sant’ Arsenio. He was the son of Antonio (Amabile) and Rosa Pandolfo, who was living with her husband.

The bride, Maddalena Episcopo, was also never before married, age 20, and a peasant born and living in the town. She was the daughter of Giuseppe (Episcopo) and Antonia Caino, who was living with her husband.

In looking over the document again this morning, I believe Antonia's surname is Cairo and not Caino.

I would agree with you. There are passenger list entries coming into the US with individuals named Antonia Cairo from Sant'Arsenio.

There are also related records under the Italian Genealogy section of the forum, and the spelling seems clearer in those records.
