Translation and notary requirement

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Translation and notary requirement

Post by fpatano »

I’m going next week for my appointment at the Chicago consulate. It says the “non-Italian” side documents do not need to be translated. I’m going through my dad since he was born in Italy. My mom was born here. Am I correct that I don’t need my mom’s birth certificate translated? I had mine and the marriage certificate translated.

Also for the document that my dad needs to sign and notarized do I just have the notary sign and stamp or do I attach a notary statement as well?

Thank you!

This is the information from the Philadelphia Consulate

Vital Records in languages other than Italian; birth, marriage, death certificates must be
professionally translated into Italian. Documents that do not need to be translated are the
U.S. Certificate of Naturalization and any statement regarding information on the
naturalization status of the ancestor.

Also, on the Website it stated you can side application at the consulate, otherwise they must be notarized.

Thanks for your reply. I just got back and I didn’t have my mom’s birth certificate translated and i didn’t have any problems.

As for the notary the person who notarized stamped the notary “oath” plus her notary stamp and signed.
