Can you make out the name?

Post by researching »

Hi guys,

This is a birth act for Angela Camposeo. It says her mother is Vita Donata Cirilli. Can you make out Vita's father's name?

Hi Erudita!

Yes, Vitantonio is Vita Donata's husband, but what does it say Vita's father's name is?

Her husband is Vitantonio, but it does not indicate the name of her father. The indication after her name is not a name. It reads "di condizione artiera." Literally that would be of condition tradesman, or condition artisan. They're just indicating their profession or general status in town. If you scroll back or forward you'll find a similar designation on most of the birth records. Most seem to indicate "di condizione artiera" or "di condizione contadina" (farmer).

okay, thanks.

Does this mean she is an artisan, or does it have to do with her husband's job as a mason?

I believe that it is referring to her husband's job. Most of these records have similar designations on them, and I don't believe that in that era that there would have been that many women working in trades.

Thanks, bbivona. I was reading the wrong part of the record.
