Do I qualify for Italian Citzenship?

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Do I qualify for Italian Citzenship?

Post by brendariani »

Hi, I am trying to find out I am entitled to apply for Italian citzenship?

My great grandfather was born in Italy. He came to Belfast and had my Grandfather in 1910, who then had my Mother in 1943. I don't think my great grandfather naturalised.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! Does the 1948 rule apply to me? Do I have to fight my case in court? Don't know much about it?

You trace Italian citizenship from your ggf to you with all documents (birth marriage death). You would need naturization documentation from your ggf to show he either never naturalized or naturalized after your gf’s birth and after the 1912 citizenship law was enacted.

You will find specifics on your consulate’s website.

Hi, I am not certain what I can do about the first name 'Carlo', my Great grandfather married under and was listed in the census records as? He was also named as Carlo on my Grandfather's birth record, but on my gf 's baptism cert it lists him as his real name of Italiano.

Do I need to verify it is the same person and if so how would I do this?

Hi, I am confused about the 1948 rule.
My Mother is the only female in my direct line and she was born in 1943. She had her own children in the 1960's. Does this mean it is easier for me to apply for Italian citizenship? I don't need to hire a lawyer/solictor?

After the 1948 law was enacted, women were allowed to pass their citizenship to their children. Yours is not a court case.

Great! So do I apply through the consulate in Edinburgh? I live in Belfast, N. Ireland?

Thank you!

mler, is your comment regarding the effect of the 1912 law based on a presumption that the gf's mother was not Italian (Irish, presumably)?
