This seems like an absurd question, but if I intend to use a C-File obtained from the USCIS Genealogy program at the SF Consulate, can I open the envelope, or do I have to bring it to the Consulate still sealed?
The letter I received from the Genealogy program (confirming that the third-degree ancestor was naturalized after the second-degree ancestor was born) says the following:
"The Genealogy Program cannot provide certified copies or an original copy. In agreement with the Italian
and German Consulates, the applicant must present the packet provided by our office that contains a
photocopy of the naturalization certificate along with the USCIS Genealogy Program response letter that
is stapled to the records without removing the documents from the packet."
I can understand the value in having it still be sealed, but I wasn't aware of that requirement based on my review of the SF Consulate's web page.
Thanks for sharing any relevant experience.
