Monongah (WV) Mine Disaster 1907

Post by pangotti7100 »

Hello everyone,

Is there anyone here that has family members who died in the mine explosions in Monongah, WV on December 6, 1907?

I am putting together a project for school that will focus on Italian immigrant miners in North Central West Virginia and whether their wives and children were unfairly compensated for their loss. I will be also focusing on the emotional toil of the survivors and the legacy of the disaster 112 years later.

Thank you in advance and I hope to hear from you.

If you haven't done so already, you might try contacting the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History to see if they have conducted an oral history project relative to the disaster or if they know of any historical institution or university that might have.
