looking for any Canadians who received dual Italian Citizen.

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

looking for any Canadians who received dual Italian Citizen.

Post by watergirl73 »

Hi,

Im 32, Canadian and my father is Italian and lives in Ontario since he was 19. He is a landed immigrant here and has not been nationalized. I'm having a rough time trying to find out EXACTLY what documents i need from him and myself so I can apply for my dual citizenship so I can move to the UK. So far I have had no help from web sites nor callinig any of the Cnaadian consulates in Toronto or Ottawa they just wont talk over the phone and the info I get is mixed. Im not even sure if i need to translate any of the documents. If anyone has that is Canadian or knows of someone who has went through this process can help me out it would mean the world to me... I have the love of my life waiting for me in the Uk and Im desperate to be with him...... and of course do some travelling to Italy and through Europe.....

Thanks in advance...

Not from Canada, but the procedures are not substantially different from those in the U.S.

You will need your dad's birth certificate.
A certified statement from the appropropriate Canadian authorities that he
did NOT naturalize
Your parents' marriage certificate (with apostille)
Your birth certificate (with apostille)

It is possible that your particular consulate may also require your mother's birth certificate.

All documents in English need to be translated.

BTW, you will have to deal with the consulate that serves your area of residence.

I checked with the web site of the Toronto Consulate, and they don't mention translations. This may mean they don't need them or they do them through the consulate (They do this in NY). They do also mention a residency card (your father's).

If I were in your position, I would submit the forms you have, because they appear to meet Toronto's requirements. There is also an application form you can download from their website.

I think you propably have enough to submit your application, and with any luck it won't take too long for citizenship to come through. In the U.S. the wait is from anywhere between eight months and two years depending on where you apply.

Good luck.

Moms going to the consulate in our hometown for me today to get some straight answers as we have been getting nothing but the run around.... so hopefully i can apply now.... well as soon as dads pr card arrives. Where abouts did you say is the application for the passport..on this website? Are all applications the same even if I apply from Canada?

The application is on the website of the Toronto consulate. It's the second page of the "Requirements for Italian Citizenship" section.

Could you post the link for the Canadian site you are refering too? I'd be interesting in seeing it!

Thanks

Perhaps you can't access it directly. I did a google search (Italian Consulate Toronto) and several possibilities came up. I just clicked on it and voila! If you still can't locate it, let me know and I'll try to locate the web address.

Sorry my error. When I googled again, I realized I went here:

http://www.myitaliancitizenship.com/dow ... ntoApp.pdf

This comes from myitaliancitizenship and was obviously taken from the Toronto website (when it was functioning). I think, though, it will still work for you.
