help translate abandon girls birth certificate

Post by elenamb10 »

I have translated essentially the entire birth certificate but there are a few parts really tripping me up.

1. The job title for Annina Orsini on line 3. I swear it says "Temtrice" but I can't find a translation for that word anywhere online. Did the writer mean to say something different? is a "Temtrice" really a temptress in english?

2. At the end of line 8, I think it says "una portante" which translate to a support. in the context of this birth certificate, what does that mean? was she a friend? a support person? or something completely different?

3. MOST IMPORTANTLY, is this document saying that Annina Orsini reclaimed her children or was giving them away?

i appreciate everyone's help!

1. she was a tessitrice-weaver and also a donna di casa -housewife; she herself was of unknown parents

2. she was appearing before the official of the town of Sanvalentino to present a copy of the act of recognition received by the notary of Tocco (da) Casauria on Jan 15, 1890 for two female children whom she recognized as her own children-una portante means "one carrying"-she is referring to the name of the first child which was Carmela Ventura (one carrying the name Carmela Ventura) ; the other was Giulia Monti. Also the children were to retain the same first names but, by the act of recognition, their surnames were changed to Orsini, same as hers

3. so she did reclaim her children

The first child's birth was recorded in the registry on Nov 13, 1877 and the second child's birth was recorded in the registry on May 29, 1882. This was in the registry for abandoned children.

When I replied to your post early yesterday morning, I didn't realize it was a duplicate, and that mmogno had already replied to you. I see that he had also found the birth acts for you, so I think you now have all of your answers.

Happy to have helped you too.
