Check My Translation

Post by darkerhorse »

Can you check my translation?

Mauro Pitruzzello owns the lands herein of the following location, amount, and condition. In the territory of Melilli.

In the locality of the mountain and San Giorgio.

Extending a legally measured 3 tumula (convert to acres?).

Bordering on the west, east, and north with lands of Sebastiano Cazzetta; and on the south with lands of Angelo Crave’.

All belonging to the class of seminativo (arable?).

Today in Melilli the 4th day of July 1815.

Mauro Pitruzzello has presented the above property tax declaration.
[signed by the official]

Does the land appear to be presently unused but arable, so he's taxed, or is it in use?

One "tomolo" varies according to the area of Italy. In Siracusa it was 1744 square metres

a land that can be sown

Thanks.

Is a land that can be sown different from arable?

According to my limited knowledge of English, I'd say so.
"seminativo", literally "a land where you can throw seeds to grow crops"
