Best path for citizenship

Over 25 million Italians have emigrated between 1861 and 1960 with a migration boom between 1871 and 1915 when over 13,5 million emigrants left the country for European and overseas destinations.

Best path for citizenship

Post by idtotx »

First time posting. I'm thrilled to find this site. We went through "by blood" process for my husband and children and they are all Italian citizens now. I'm trying to determine the best path forward for myself. I believe that I can get citizenship through my husband but I had read that I would need to take an Italian language fluency test. I am also eligible through my great-great grandfather.

I would love some thoughts on what the best process would be to pursue.

Hello,

From what I know, this would be dependent on what you want to spend your time on. You need to prove a "B1" level of Italian as a spouse to obtain Italian citizenship through your husband. If you've determined you're eligible and would be able to become a citizen through your great-great grandfather (he didn't give up Italian citizenship, the line and timeline fall within required limits, etc), you can get all the documentation and go through the process for yourself. It depends on which you're more comfortable with, and if you want to spend the money and time for all the documentation to make your own case for citizenship.

Also, when were you married. If before 1983, you obtained citizenship automatically.
